Life rarely goes the way you think it will

The past couple of days have been a blur.  I've moved from casually toying with an idea to, well, HERE.   Sometimes I guess the stars and planets align themselves in a certain way and WHAM!  All of a sudden there's a huge open door in front of you.  And this time I walked right through.

So the idea that I'd been toying with for probably the last 6 months was that my passion for quilting seemed to be growing while the space in my home seemed to be shrinking, or at least not getting any bigger.  Even though I've been quilting for over 15 years I seem to still have an steady supply of ideas banging against the inside of my skull, just waiting to get out.  The other day I simply had to drop everything, sit down and start appliqueing a sunflower onto a scrappy pieced white backround because the idea would not stop bugging me until I did it.  (I hope it turns out well, because I can't wait to show it to you!)  My most recent quilt came to me in a dream (well, almost.  In the dream I didn't have to run to the fabric store for a yard of border fabric, but other than that it's exactly as I dreamt it. )  Okay.  So either I'm certifiably insane or just passionate.  I'll let you be the judge.

What's been the crazy part about the last few days is making the whole idea of being a Real Quilter and Blogger into a reality.   I've learned alot, and there's still alot to learn.  Today I learned how to get the pictures out of the digital camera, onto the computer, and then onto the Etsy site.  I haven't taken many pictures but that's been one of the fun things.  ( I also staged and took the picture that's the banner for this blog).   I have to give ALL of the credit for the appearance of this blog to my 14 year old son, Caleb, who earns the title of Master Blog Tweaker .  I could not ask for more competent or patient Tech Support, so a big Thank You to him.

Some of you might be wondering what planet I've been living on that I could be so technically illiterate.  Don't I work, have a job?  Why yes, of course I do.

I'm a violinist in an orchestra.  So that means, for those of us who actually make the music, no computers at work.  Ever.  It seems inconceivable in the 21st. century that there could be a workplace full of people with advanced college degrees, and not a computer to be seen, but that's the way it is.  Just like it was in , say, 1804 (the year Beethoven's 5th symphony was composed, in case anyone cares), except with better lighting.  So are there technically competent musicians?  Of course there are, and there are many that I know at work.  I'm just not one of them.  So I guess I have some catching up to do in that department.  I do believe I'm trainable, though.

My philosophy about quilting has always been, "it's not about being perfect, it's about learning and having fun".  So I hope this blog will be the same way.
