Weekend Update

It's been a busy week at work, so I've had more time to THINK about the T-shirt quilts than time to actually MAKE my sample quilt.  But in some ways that's been a good thing.  Without a pattern to follow, or even a picture of something comparable to look at, a little meditation on the process has been useful.

I'm trying to let the shirt itself dictate how the whole block is constructed.  This one had a lot of open white space, so there was room for an applique flower.  The strip of red fabric has violins and lutes on it, (sorry they're not visible in the picture), kind of going with the Music School theme of the shirt.

This block is complete, I think, with just a strip of wide rick-rack on the side.

I've been thinking a lot about embellishment as an option for these quilts as a way to make them really unique.

How about yo-yo flowers? (Those aren't sewn onto that shirt yet, just placed there for the photo as an idea)

Earth-tone buttons look great with this shirt.

After tomorrow I'll have some time to really dig into this project.  This is the type of project that needs stretches of uninterrupted work time, especially since I'm trying to establish A Process as I go along.  But I think it's going to be really, really fun!

  1. Love what you're doing with these. It's going to make a wonderful t-shirt quilt that's not run-of-the-mill. :)

  2. I think your idea is wonderful. People like the t-shirt quilts because it reminds them of special events or special times. Your extra details will just make it all the more special.
