Work in Progress

I'm working on a queen size scrap quilt, the largest project I've done in awhile.  I had a fortunate bit of timing on it, though-- I finished piecing the back this past Wednesday, and then on Thursday I hosted my quilt guild.  So there were 5 sets of hands at my house to help baste it!  The whole job took less than 30 minutes.  (Thanks ladies!)

So far quilting has gone smoothly.
I've mentioned this tip before, but it's worth repeating:  when quilting a large project, it will be much easier if you set your ironing board to the left of your sewing table, and pile the excess quilt on top of it.

When I took this picture early yesterday, I was still undecided about how I was going to quilt the blocks. I procrastinated by doing the quilting on the sashing first.

When I couldn't put it off any longer, I decided to do a large free-motion flower in the center of the block.  I'll post a picture when it's all done, but I think it was a good decision.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Independence Day weekend, whatever your plans are!

  1. Yeah, it definitely makes a difference having extra "table" space for the large quilts. I also pulled my table away from the wall and stacked storage boxes up to table height to get more working area. It'll do until I buy a narrow folding table to look prettier doing the same job. :D
