Work in Progress

You'll recall the AWESOME block piecing video from the 3 Dudes Quilt Shop that I posted awhile back (you can view it here if you missed it, or need a review).  Well, I gave it a try and I'm glad I did!

I started with this set of Kaffe Fassett 2 1/2" strips that I bought from Jordan's shop on Ebay.  It would be hard to make something ugly out of this fabric, really.

So here is where I am now, with a big stack of beautiful pieced squares.

You can see that I added some dark strips of my own, to give the quilt a little visual depth.

These were constructed exactly as the ones in the video:  4 strips sewn together, then cut into squares, then cut corner to corner into triangles.  The blocks are 5 1/2".

If you start with pre-cut strips it goes incredibly fast!

I have 110 blocks to put together, which I think with a border will make a nice lap size quilt.

One helpful hint not mentioned in the video:  a little spray starch and a quick press with a hot iron before assembling the strips will help keep your seams straight (long strips of fabric tend to want to wiggle around!)
